Typical Postpartum Care Visit

Postpartum care visits are tailored to your priorities each day, adapting to your evolving needs as your baby grows and your family settles in with your newborn.

Check In

  • Discuss how things have been since our last visit. 

  • Plan for your self-care, including time for you to eat, rest, and shower. 

  • Review your priorities for the day, such as rest, breastfeeding support, managing visitors, or help with household tasks. 

  • Based on our discussion, I will focus on your identified priorities and any additional ways I can bring calm and support to your family and home that day.

Check Out

  • Review any outstanding items from the day.

  • Make sure parent(s) are restored and and ready to continue baby care

  • Discuss requests for upcoming care visits, such as an errand or information request.

  • Pay Doula prior to the next week of work.

Focused Support (examples)

  • Settle you in for a feeding session while bringing you tea, folding baby laundry, and tidying up the kitchen. 

  • Care for the baby so you can take a restorative nap or connect with a friend or partner. 

  • Wear the baby (with your permission) while preparing a light meal and allowing you to shower. 

  • Provide guidance and support with infant care tasks such as bathing or feeding. 

  • Help you interpret your baby’s cues for feeding, interaction, and sleep. 

  • Listen to your thoughts about your birth experience or any concerns you have as a new parent. 

  • Assist with meal planning, organize a meal train, or prepare a grocery list or order. 

  • Stock changing stations on each level of your home or create a nursing basket with activities for older siblings. 

  • Share information about parenting groups or local opportunities to connect with other new parents.
